The possible misuse of nearly €10 billion of Next Generation EU funds in Spain would represent one of the biggest scandals in recent European history. European recovery funds must never be used to cover ordinary state expenditure such as pensions. If these allegations are confirmed, we are facing a serious abuse of European taxpayers’ money. We will raise this issue in the Committee on Budgetary Control and demand full transparency and accountability.
